Unique German-Australian Opera ProjectEnlarge image
On 8 July 2017, six world-class vocalists from the State Opera House of Saarbrücken, Germany, will join the Canberra Symphony Orchestra at Llewellyn Hall in a special performance of some of the most beloved opera arias of all time.
When: 8 July 2017 at 7.30pm
Where: Llewellyn Hall, Canberra
With a repertoire from Bizet to Wagner, directed by Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Nicholas Milton AM, it is going to be an epic and unprecedented event no lover of great music can afford to miss.
How did the project evolve?
This German-Australian artistic collaboration was made possible by an international cultural exchange project proudly supported by the Australian and German Governments. It was initiated by the members of a high-ranking Australia-Germany Advisory Group of which Nicholas Milton AM is also a member.
German Ambassador Dr Anna Prinz is thrilled to see the ambitious plan come into action:“Germany is honoured to be supporting the CSO Opera Gala this year and we believe that this cultural exchange is extremely important to promoting the arts and truly benefits both countries.”
Additional events in Melbourne and Sydney
Following the concert, funding from the German government will activate a series of engagements in Melbourne and Sydney during the week of 10 – 16 July 2017. All six guest singers and the project manager from Saarbrücken will first fly to Melbourne as featured artists with Victorian Opera for a community recital, and will also engage in a forum session with Victorian Opera singers – sharing expertise relating to the German operatic repertoire. Later in the week, the singers will engage with the Pacific Opera in Sydney for a masterclass and forum discussing opera careers in Germany.
The German Embassy is very much looking forward to sharing this unique experience with you – be it in Canberra, Sydney or Melbourne. Please follow the link for more information about the project:
