The Consul General and the individual sections
The Consulate General in Sydney is responsible for the States New South Wales and Queensland, dealing in particular with consular matters, economic relations and cultural and scientific affairs. Furthermore, starting from 1 February 2012, the Consulate General is also in charge of visa and passports applications from residents of Victoria and Western Australia.

The economics section promotes foreign trade and investment between Germany and Australia by supporting the efforts of the German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Sydney based Correspondent of Germany Trade & Invest, the Foreign Trade and Inward investment Agency of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The cultural section fosters and coordinates the exchange of culture and education with New South Wales and Queensland. It also supports the German cultural and educational institutions operating in the consular district, in particular the Goethe-Institut Sydney, the German International School Sydney, and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Information Centre in Sydney.
