Our Bear is still bare

Help us create a unique bear skin for our Sydney Buddy Bear!

We are looking for artists to paint our Buddy Bear with their original design. The bear is the official symbol of Germany’s capital, Berlin, and the Buddy Bear is a sculpture of a bear with open arms, symbolising friendship, tolerance and understanding between people of various cultures and religions. More than 140 Buddy Bears have been created by artists so far, connecting places from all over the world with Berlin. Have a peak into a collection of photos of Buddy Bears from German Embassies and Consulates around the world.

Our Sydney Bear is still bare, so help us give our 2m big Buddy Bear a unique bear skin with an Aussie touch!

Send us your application, incl. some background information about yourself, and your original design idea to info(at)sydney.diplo.de by the 30th of August 2017.

To visualise your ideas, you can download the shape of a Buddy here [pdf, 60.41k]

Material for the winning design will be provided for and your name will be mentioned on the floor plate of the bear.

The Sydney Buddy Bear – with his new bear skin created by you – will then greet visitors to the German Consulate General in Sydney and might even travel around a bit.
